Bolton’S Greenhalgh’s Craft Bakery has launched the first of a planned fleet of breakfast and lunchtime mobile shops. The vehicle sells sandwiches, pies, cakes and drinks to offices and work premises in several of Bolton’s major business parks.

The van was unveiled by Kathleen Smart, MD of Greenhalgh’s. She said: “We see the vans as being able to reach areas of the local community that our shops are unable to.”

The Fiat Scudo van houses a Jura coffee machine, which allows customers to serve themselves from a choice of hot drinks.

Greenhalgh’s plans to add further vehicles by the end of 2006, depending on the continued success of the first van. It said that eventually the fleet could reach as far afield as Preston, Stockport and south Manchester.

Greenhalgh’s will also launch its new signage and livery at a new shop in Oldham town centre, due to open on 21 August (British Baker, 14 April, pg 4).

This will be Greenhalgh’s 43rd outlet and the first of three shop openings planned for this year.
