== Roast on a roll ==

Borough Market-based restaurant Roast is to roll out its Roast to Go takeaway sandwich concept across 30 sites in the capital. The first Roast to Go opened in 2006 next to the main restaurant and sells sandwiches, made with bread from Flour Power City, Scotch eggs and snacks.

== Costa increase ==

Costa Coffee’s total sales are up 22.6% compared to the same period in 2007/08. Whitbread’s interim management statement also showed that the coffee chain’s like-for-like sales increased by 2.6% for the 39 weeks to 27 November 2008. The total number of Costa outlets now stands at 1,239.

== Canada Bread inquiry ==

Canada Bread Company is investigating allegations that a senior executive of its UK bakery operations may have sought to influence pricing of a competitor, Mr Bagel. Canada Bread entered into negotiations to acquire Mr Bagel in October, but these ceased in early December, when Mr Bagel sought to significantly raise the selling price of the business late in the process.

== Emissions cut ==

The latest report from the Food and Drink Federation (FDF) has revealed that its members have cut their carbon emissions by 17% since 1990. This equates to 58,000 tonnes less CO2 - the equivalent of taking 22,000 cars off UK roads each year. Among its members are Tate & Lyle, Macphie of Glenbervie, British Sugar, United Biscuits and Burtons Foods.
