Pie accolades
The British Pie Awards 2010 will take place on Wednesday 19 May at St Mary’s Church in Melton Mowbray. The event, sponsored by Colman’s, will see bakers fight it out against butchers, in a bid to be crowned the best pie-maker. The judging panel will comprise pie experts and celebrities, including TV chef Phil Vickery, Countryfile’s Julia Bradbury and celebrity chef and restaurateur Tony Tobin.
Honeybuns abroad
A number of Dorset-based firm Honeybuns’ baked goods will now be available in Cojean stores in Paris. The French sandwich and salad outlet will be selling its Almond Moon, Milk Chocolate Brownie and Snowy Hills Minis.
Uniq sales on the rise
Convenience food group Uniq has announced its first-quarter group sales were up 4.2%, compared to the first three months of 2009. Its food-to-go sales, which include its sandwiches, wraps and deli-fillers business, increased by 12.5%, which the firm said reflected its business wins in 2009, including £15m worth of new sandwich business with Marks & Spencer.
