Allied’s Tear Drops
Allied Bakeries has invested in aerodynamic delivery trucks for Kingsmill, which help reduce fuel consumption. The company has introduced 23 ’Tear Drop’ trucks and two EcoStream delivery trucks to its fleet, which will carry the strap-line ’Kingsmill, on the road to slicing emissions’.
Gluten-free growth
The global gluten-free market is set to grow by $1.2bn during the next five years to $4.3bn predicted Datamonitor, which said the UK’s gluten-free market would be the most valuable in Europe at $374.2m, growing at one of the highest rates, second only to Germany. It said celebrities have helped to make gluten-free high-profile.
Chef acts for Waitrose
Waitrose has been working with chef Heston Blumenthal on a range of 20 products, including bakery, to be introduced in October this year. A further 30 products in the new ’Heston from Waitrose’ range are scheduled to launch in April 2011.
Rock for Wrap firm
Wrap firm Mission Foods has teamed up with the hit West End Musical We Will Rock You for its latest on-pack promotion. The wraps will offer consumers a guaranteed two-for-one ticket with every pack and the chance to win prizes, including luxury weekend theatre packages. A digital media campaign will also offer the chance to win a walk-on part in the show.
Doctors call for obesity action
The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health has called for the government to introduce new measures to combat obesity, including banning fast food outlets from opening near schools and restricting advertising of so-called junk food.
