Crottys’ return
Crottys of Carlow is returning to full production early in the New Year. The original award-winning bakery had traded for 47 years, until it closed in 2001. Tom Crotty, son of the original owner, reopened in a local supermarket 18 months ago but now he and his business partner, Patrick Purcell, are putting the finishing touches to a new full-scale bakery on an industrial estate.
Cocomaya extends
Artisan baker and chocolatier Cocomaya opened its second stand-alone London outlet earlier this month. The new shop on Pavilion Road will sell both the bakery and chocolate products available at its existing Connaught Street outlet.
Greencore On A Roll
Greencore has acquired US fresh sandwich manufacturer On A Roll Sales. The gross assets of the firm, based in Brockton, Massachusetts, have been valued at $3.4m. Group development director for Greencore Eoin Tonge, said the buy would provide an additional revenue stream to Greencore USA’s food-to-go category.
Sharpak survey
A survey by packaging supplier Sharpak has revealed, from a survey, that 82% of consumers want retailers to display the origin of food packaging as well as the food itself, and 78% said they would be willing to pay extra for locally sourced packaging.
