Warburtons’ £1 loaf
Warburtons has developed a 600g loaf exclusively for Poundland, currently being trialled in stores. The 600g version of the Toastie loaf, as thick- or medium-sliced, retails at £1. It is currently on trial at 78 stores, and a full roll-out is expected later this month, said a spokesperson for Poundland.
Maple Leaf holds firm
Sales at Maple Leaf Bakery UK have held up against falling volumes at its North American sister companies, according to parent company Canada Bread’s latest trading statement. However, Maple Leaf is continuing to consolidate, including the planned closure of its site in Workington, Cumbria.
Welcome Dr Schär
Gluten and wheat-free product supplier Nutrition Point is changing its name to Dr Schär UK. The firm, based in Thelwall, Warrington, is taking on the name of its parent company as it diversifies into new gluten-free sectors. Dietary Specials, a Nutrition Point brand, recently launched a gluten-free range for foodservice, including rolls, bread, biscuits and flour mix.

California Raisins is to launch a new consumer advertising campaign, claiming that, despite recent retail price increases, California Raisins still represent incredible value compared to some other dried and fresh fruit.
