Lesaffre buys Fermex

Yeast supplier Lesaffre has acquired Worcester-based rival Fermex International. The global yeast and bakery ingredients supplier has ensured present Fermex employees will remain with the group in order to strengthen the business’ UK and Ireland presence.

Brookes Avana sale

Premier Foods has completed the disposal of its Brookes Avana business, which consists of Avana Bakeries and RF Brookes chilled foods, to 2 Sisters Food Group for £30m. More than 2,000 employees are due to transfer with the business.

Sterling move

Greencore is seeking inclusion in the FTSE UK Index Series, as its business continues to shift away from Ireland. From 20 January 2012 its ordinary shares listed on the LSE will trade in sterling rather than in euro.

Tender for export

A South African company is looking to purchase half a container-load of Christmas cakes, puddings, stollen and a variety of biscuits for Christmas 2012. According to UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), the tender deadline is 10/10/12 and interested companies should register their interest via the UKTI website.
