Yorkshire-based family bakery The Topping Pie Company has seen its sales from farm shops, delis, garden centres and independent retailers double in the last quarter.
The company said it had secured 20 new customers since exhibiting at the Farm Shop & Deli Show, organised by British Baker publisher William Reed, earlier this year.
As a result of the increased independent customer base, weekly sales to this sector have risen from £5,000 to around £10,000 over the last trading quarter, the company revealed, with customers taking a combination of its deli and pre-pack pie and quiche ranges.
All products are handcrafted using British Red Tractor pork meat and top-quality ingredients.
Matthew Topping, sales director for The Topping Pie Company, said: “As farm shops, independent delis and speciality retailers become more competitive, they seek quality products that offer food-to-go and deli counters a real point of difference. We are delighted with the interest in the deli and pre-pack range to date.”
In April, the company introduced new colour-coded packaging for its Speciality Pork Pie range and launched a new pie range under its Maggie’s sub-brand at the Farm Shop & Deli show.
