Food from Britain (FFB) France recently held an annual two-day event in Paris for UK food producers, including bakers.

One of the most significant points to come out of the seminar, according to Martine Foulloy at the FFB French office, was that French consumers were increasingly interested in buying "very British" morning goods, including tea cakes and crumpets - and French buyers were looking for British suppliers.

The aim of the seminar was to help bakers from the UK build their business in the French retail market, designed for both first-time and experienced exporters. It focused on expat and tourist markets, outlined the history of retail in France, looked into the latest developments in food retailing and gave information on the best way to approach the French market, addressing issues such as pricing policy, brands, private label and tenders.

Seminars were presented in English by Martine Foulloy, a senior consultant at FFB France, and guest speakers included Claude Lellouche, managing director of Mediascore Food, and Jean-Francois Soutry, director of Bon Bon Buddies France.

There was also an organised visit to key stores in the Paris area including Auchan, Carrefour, Monoprix, Monop, Ed, Picard Surgeles and La Grande Epicerie de Paris.

FFB France provides UK exporters with a range of consultancy and marketing services, local food industry expertise and trade contacts. It also helps local buyers in France source UK-produced food and drink.
