A UK malt manufacturer has been given the sustainable stamp of approval at The Manufacturer of the Year Awards.
Muntons, which produces and supplies malt products and malted ingredients globally, collected the Sustainable Manufacturer of the Year award at a dinner held at Lancashire Cricket Ground this month. The business faced stiff competition from Boots, Crown Paints, Avon Metals, Camfil Farr and Alumet Systems UK.
Alan Ridealgh, managing director at Muntons, said: “Muntons is proud to be recognised as a business leader in sustainability. Being recognised as an overall high performer in manufacturing underscores how environmental and sustainable agendas are core to a modern and profitable business that respects the environment.”
The company had to prove its sustainability credentials across its supply chain, which was judged by a panel of industry experts. It assessed areas such as environmental improvement as shown through energy management, carbon footprint and an action plan.
Dr Nigel Davies, Muntons’ manufacturing and technical director, said: “Muntons now has a well-developed sustainability ethos, which is core to our business activities and builds on our success in The Sunday Times Best Green Companies award over the past four years. Muntons’ pledge to produce entirely low-carbon malt is a strong business driver. This award will spur us on to continue our drive to environmental protection and business success”.
