Allied Bakeries’ chief executive Brian Robinson is to take over the role as chairman of the Federation of Bakers from Miles Warnick after being formally elected at the annual general meeting on 16 May.

Robinson took up his post at Allied in January 2006, having formerly worked as chief executive of George Weston Foods’ baking division in Australia and New Zealand.

FoB director Gordon Polson welcomed him to the role and thanked Warnick for his valued contribution over the past three years."

Nicholas & Harris has appointed a new operations director to run its Salisbury bakery. Andrew Davidson joins from Vitacress Salads and will lead a team of 160 employees at the bakery. The company, part of Finsbury Foods, bakes premium craft and organic breads, rolls and buns for major retailers.

Warburtons

Warburtons has appointed Richard Hayes as marketing director. He joins the company from Whyte & Mackay, where he also worked as marketing director, leading the international relaunches of Whyte & Mackay Scotch, Vladivar vodka and Jura malt whisky. In his new role, Hayes will lead the marketing team and implement Warburtons’ marketing strategy.

Category marketing controller at Warburtons Sarah Miskell has been promoted to category director. The senior commercial team, comprising Hayes, Miskell and sales director John Smethurst, reports to commercial director Roz Cuschieri.

Emma Burke

Kate’s Cakes

Hand-crafted cake specialist Kate’s Cakes has appointed Emma Burke as technical director to its board. Burke originally joined the company as procurement technologist in May 2005 and was promoted to technical development manager before assuming her new role this year. Prior to working at Kate’s, she was technical manager on salad crops at Tesco and senior technical manager at Wight Salads.

Burke sees her main challenges at Kate’s over the next five years as sustainable sourcing, green initiatives and improving product quality.

John Whitechurch

Taste of the West

Regional food group Taste of the West, which champions exceptional food in the south-west of England and represents over 300 businesses, has appointed John Whitechurch as its new chairman and Guy Tullberg as vice-chairman, creating an eight-strong board of directors.

Whitechurch is chairman of Launceston-based family-run business Tregida Smokehouse, while Tullberg works for Wiltshire-based firm Tracklements. Also on the board is Richard Anderson of Puddings & Pies in Sherborne, Dorset.

Mark Randall

Thomas Food Group

Specialist quiche manufacturer Thomas Food Group has promoted Mark Randall to the role of finance director for the whole group, which includes the Meadowbrook Bakery in Milton Keynes. Randall had been working for a few months as financial controller for the company’s Thomas Food Partnership factory in Sheffield, putting new financial systems into place. The Sheffield plant and Meadowbrook employ 200 people between them.

Snack and confectionery food group Glisten has appointed Angela Megson as an independent non-executive director, with effect from 1 July 2007.
