Isidora Popovic´ ’s debut baking book arrives complete with a front cover endorsement from none other Liz Hurley. But don’t let that put you off. The Serbian-born Popovic´ is the baker behind the niche Popina brand. Established as a market stall 10 years ago, it has since been sold through higher-end retailers from Waitrose up to Fortnum & Mason the first retailer to spot Popina.

Savouries are king here, from butternut squash and parmesan tarts to spinach, garlic and nutmeg muffins and spelt and oat crackers, with the pages dotted with the odd Eastern European speciality, such as poppyseed strudel. The notable absence of the V-word betrays the fact that meat features nowhere as an ingredient.

There is a rustic appeal to these simple recipes such as the Easter egg biscuits, covered in white chocolate, pistachios and dried cranberries which could give inspiration for any budding artisan producers.
