Roberts Bakery has announced a pre-tax profit increase of 37% to £6.92m as it filed its accounts for the year to 29 August 2009.

The Nantwich-based firm said it reported a stable growth in one of the toughest economic climates the industry has ever traded in. Turnover rose from £63.1m to £69.5 million for the period.

Managing director Mike Braddock, said: “We are naturally delighted that Roberts is in a stable and secure position and can report a healthy trading period. It gives our customers a great deal of confidence and has enabled us to invest in our largest development programme yet.”

The firm announced an £8.5m modernisation project in March this year, which will include a new despatch facility, totalling 3,000sq m, and 24 brand new despatch docks.

“This programme will help us to further develop our brand, bring new products to market and strengthen our reputation as one of the leading bakeries within the industry.”
