Pret A Manger has taken more steps towards its goal to be represented at all major airports across the UK, after securing locations at Birmingham and London City airports.
The new outlets at Birming-ham, set to open in May, will be the first launched in an airport outside the south-east region. There will be one airside shop in the departure lounge of Terminal 1, one landside in Terminal 1 and a new external kiosk.
"The three shops will be served by a large on-site kitchen, continuing Pret’s commitment to preparing all sandwiches, salads and wraps using fresh, natural ingredients delivered at the beginning of each day," explained Pret, which added that this would also allow the firm to react quickly to fluctuations in customer numbers.
Pret has secured prime locations at the airport as the result of a tendering process, carried out late in 2009. There are also plans for 24-hour opening in the busy summer months.
The outlet at London City Airport opened on 20 February.
Pret also has outlets at London Heathrow, Luton and Gatwick airports.
