Costa Coffee’s sales increased 25.6% to £123.2 million according to parent company Whitbread’s interim results for the six months to 28 August 2008.

Total profit was up 10.6% to £7.3 million year-on-year. Like-for-like sales growth has slowed, up 3.7% compared to 6.8% last year.The coffee chain has continued with its development programme opening 84 new UK stores (80 net of closures), bringing its total to 775 UK stores. Costa currently has 346 overseas stores and aims to increase its combined total of UK and overseas stores from 1,121 to 1,350 by the year end.

Whitbread’s total group revenue is up 12.6% to £682.2 million.
