The Sherwood Group’s packaging division has launched Purepack, a new concept in barrier-coated printed packaging, suitable for use in the food industry. Using technology suitable for a wide variety of boards and weights, it features a water-based coating that provides a direct food contact barrier while also offering potential cost savings over traditional barrier coatings, according to the firm, as the printing and coating take place in a complete inline process, rather than requiring two separate operations. Its protective properties also provide a grease- and water-resistant barrier and it is also fully biodegradable, compostable and recyclable.
Purepack can incorporate windows utilising a PLA recyclable material, eliminating the need to separate a PE laminate from the printed material.
