Starbucks has opened its first “bespoke” store in Conduit Street, London, as part of a strategy to roll-out locally-inspired coffee shops across the UK.

The coffee chain announced in September this year its aims to focus more on “local relevance and environmental responsibility”.

The look of the outlet has been created to reflect the character of the surrounding neighbourhood, as well as the environmental considerations to save energy and cut water usage.

“It is one of a number of store designs around the world that will inspire the look and feel of new stores and refurbishments throughout the UK and Ireland in the future, meaning no two Starbucks will ever be entirely the same,” according to a statement released by Starbucks UK.

The Conduit Street branch has been designed to have a loft-like feel, with earthy colours and reclaimed materials including wood panelling and picture frames used. The firm aims to cut energy usage by 20% and conserve the equivalent of 900 Olympic swimming pools’ worth of water a year.

“This new design approach, which is an important investment in the future of our company, also means that we can make a significant contribution to reaching our environmental targets,” commented Darcy Willson-Rymer, managing director, Starbucks UK and Ireland.
