The UK team finished ninth in the 13th Coup du Monde de la Pâtisserie competition, held as part of the Sirha World Hospitality & Food Service Event at Eurexpo in Lyon, France.

The team competed against 21 other nations in the international competition, which saw France scoop the top title for a record seventh time in a row, taking home a prize of €21,000 (£18,000) as well as a specially-designed trophy and gold medals.

Japan and Italy were awarded second and third places, winning cash prizes of €12,000 (£10,300) and €7,000 (£6,000) respectively.

Members of the UK team included Javier Mercardo, Nicholad Bouhelier and Nicholas Belorgey, alongside the Coup du Monde de la Pâtisserie’s UK president Martin Chiffers. The UK team won the top prize for their entry poster, featuring an SOS-style image entitled “Lost Worlds”.

The competing teams were required to prepare products within a 10-hour period during the two day-long contest, including three chocolate desserts, three fruit-based ice-cream desserts and 12 identical plate desserts.

Other creations included three artistic designs, measuring 1.25m high, made with sugar, chocolate and sculpted ice.
