Homebaked Community Bakery has already smashed its online fundraising target, with 15 days still to go.

The co-operative group, known as the Homebaked Community Land Trust, in Liverpool was looking to raise £13,000 to re-establish a family-owned bakery – Mitchells – outside Anfield football stadium.

The group has currently raised £15,553, from 351 investors, on online funding platform Kickstarter – an all or nothing scheme.

The money raised will go towards purchasing a professional four-deck oven for the bakery, which will feature tables for customers to eat-in, a hatch to serve hot food on football match days, as well as a training kitchen.

Community baking sessions, apprenticeships and the use of the kitchen for micro-businesses are also planned.

It hopes to open for business in June 2013.
