Crieff-based Campbell’s Bakery has launched a competition tasking young bakers to ‘Design a Doughnut for Charity’.

Ahead of National Doughnut Week, running 12-19 May, the competition is open to children under the age of 14, whose winning idea will appear in the Scottish bakery, with 10p from each sale donated to The Children’s Trust.

Iain Campbell, managing director at Campbell’s Bakery, said: “This year we want to engage with the local youngsters and get their imaginations working to come up with a unique idea that could be produced on a commercial basis. They need to think about the flavour combinations of the filling and topping, as well as the shape and size of the doughnut and the decoration on top.

“The best entrant will be rewarded with a giant box of doughnuts and will have the pleasure of seeing their creation brought to life by our skilled craftsmen. May the best young baker win!”

National Doughnut Week, which has raised over £735,000 in the past 20 years, is organised by Chris Freeman of Dunn’s Bakery, who won the Lifetime Achievement Award at last year’s Baking Industry Awards.
