Gerhard Jenne from Konditor & Cook made a guest spot on last night’s episode on BBC Two, in which presenter Alex Polizzi attempted to save Torquay business, the Singing Kettle tearooms.
The TV crew visited Konditor & Cook at its site in The Gherkin, London, where Jenne gave the struggling business owners advice about how he runs his cake business by listening to customers’ needs.
He was also seen making some scones for the show. Yet despite the sterling advice, the show concluded with the tearoom’s owners partly going back to their old ways.
The BBC described the show as including a “visit to luxury bakery Konditor & Cook reveals what today’s cake-buying customer desires”.
On the show, Jenne told the business: “I think a successful tearoom needs to distinguish themselves with their cakes.
“They don’t have to reinvent the wheel but they need to do simple things really well, with the wow factor, I mean that’s what we strive for.”
Jenne writes a weekly blog for British Baker, which appears online. Read his own account of his small screen appearence here.
