Suffolk-based family business Cake Shop Bakery has opened a new facility to increase production by 20% to keep up with demand.
The new wholesale bakery at Bentwaters Business Park, north of Woodbridge, started baking this month after a major fit-out and investment in new equipment including a specialist oven, which will significantly increase capacity, according to the company.
The expansion will create two new jobs at Bentwaters Park and three at the original retail bakery on Woodbridge High Street.
The business has received backing from Lloyds Bank and the design and fit-out of the new bakery has been supported by Somerset-based Brook Food Processing.
“We are particularly keen to grow the wholesale side of the business providing bread and cakes for retailers including farm shops and delis as well as hospitality businesses in Suffolk,” said David Wright, the third generation of the family to run the business.
“We have been limited in our capacity to supply other businesses until now, and we’re excited that the new site will enable us to grow.”
The move is expected to relieve traffic pressure in Woodbridge town centre as all deliveries to and from the bakery will now go straight to Bentwaters.
