Morrisons has rebranded its Coburg Cob the ‘Cob for Care’ to raise funds for end-of-life charity Marie Curie.

Throughout August, the loaves will carry a bright yellow sticker – a nod to the charity’s daffodil emblem – and 25p from every sale will be donated to the charity.

Morrisons’ Market Street Bakers make more than fifty thousand cobs a day, and the retailer said it is one of its best-loved bakery products.

The rebranding of the loaves is part of Morrisons’ Every Pack Gives Back campaign. A percentage of sales of hundreds of promotional items, including Warburtons Crumpet Thins and Soreen Malt Loaf, will be donated to Marie Curie.

It is the latest in the ongoing partnership between the charity and Morrisons that has so far raised more than £7m. The retailer has committed to raising £15m in total.

Other activities by the retailer include a national store relay that will see stores and sites ‘pass the baton’ as they fundraise across the UK throughout August.

And Morrisons’ More Card app will turn yellow for August – with a reminder that customers can donate their More Card Points to Marie Curie in multiples of 1,000 (£1 value) through the More Card App or Morrisons More Card website.

“Marie Curie’s dedication to people and communities up and down the UK could not be more important, so we are urging customers to pick up a special ‘Cob for Care’ and show their support for end of life care,” said Morrisons corporate affairs director David Scott.

Marie Curie clinical nurse specialist Emma-May Ward added that the charity relies on the generosity of the public to fund the care it provides.

“The Every Pack Gives Back initiative helps to raise vital funds so we can reach more patients and families when and where care is needed,” she said.
