Subway has opened its 5,000th European outlet with a new site in Livingston, Scotland.
The site is located in The Centre shopping complex and employs 15 members of staff. All Subway stores are run on a franchise basis and the Livingston site is the 16th run by Haj Atwal.
Justin Goes, regional director (Europe) for Subway, said: “It is a fantastic achievement and reflects the strong entrepreneurial spirit of our franchisees, who work hard in their local communities providing a great product and excellent customer service to all our customers.”
The sandwich retailer now has stores in more than 30 European countries, and opened 300 in the UK and Ireland last year.
Atwal said: “I started my career with the Subway brand over 15 years ago, when I opened my first store with my brother, Narinder, in Edinburgh. Since then, we have gone on to open many more Subway stores individually and together, with the support of the brand.”
Subway recently opened its second outlet in a car dealership.
