The Compleat Food Group is voluntarily recalling a total of 24 retailer own-label pastry products including rolls, slices, pies, and pinwheels.

The bakery supplier said this was a precautionary measure because the items, which have been on sale in chillers at Asda, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and Aldi stores (see below for the full product list), may contain small pieces of metal and plastic and could potentially cause a risk if consumed.

Compleat revealed a manufacturing fault at an unnamed site was responsible for the contamination and had been identified through inline metal detectors, with the affected lines shutdown immediately while an internal investigation took place. After rectifying the fault, the site had resumed operations as normal, it said.

The company noted that relevant customers had been informed of the potential plastic and metal contamination to a limited number of their own-label products, with several retailers voluntarily recalling the affected ranges as a precaution.

“We also informed the Food Standards Authority and other relevant industry bodies in line with standard protocols,” said a spokesperson for Compleat. “The safety and quality of our products is of paramount importance to us, and we take all issues regarding the production of our food extremely seriously.”

The recall was not said to have affected any other bakery products from The Compleat Food Group or its associated brands, which include Pork Farms, Wall’s Pastry, and Squeaky Bean. Wall’s recently relaunched its sausage rolls with a major update to its recipe and a packaging refresh.
