Sadness has greeted news that West Yorkshire bakery Waites will not be re-opening, having been devastated twice by water damage.
The company, whose bakery and shop, Waites Confectioners, was in Mytholmroyd, had already announced that its Hebden Bridge shop would not be re-opening. It has now announced on the company’s Facebook page that, after weeks of consideration, it will not be re-opening.
As reported in our flooding round-up, Mytholmroyd in West Yorkshire was left battered after the River Calder burst its banks.
The decision brings to an end a 60-year-old business. Waites has issued a statement, which it said would be their only one on the matter, on their Facebook page.
It said: “Final decisions have been made as some of you will have heard, no doubt. After over 60 years of trading we will not be re-opening.
“We’d like to thank all the members of staff who have come and gone and come back again in some cases, and one member of staff, in particular, for staying with us through thick and thin, thanks Alan. Thank you all for your custom over the years.”
Destroyed in more ways than one
It continued: “This flood has destroyed us in more ways than one, so it’s time for us all to move on to pastures new with a bright future and an extra hour or two in bed.
“If you are missing a pie and you’re in or passing through Ilkley, go and try a pie from Lishmans Of Ilkley, you won’t be disappointed.”
