Ingredients supplier Macphie has appointed Angela Willows as its new chief financial officer (CFO) to help support international growth ambitions.
It comes as the Aberdeenshire-based family business has extended its B Corp certification for the fourth time.
Alberta native Willows brings more than two decades of experience in finance and business strategy to Macphie, having previously held global leadership roles at Nestlé in Canada and at its headquarters in Switzerland.
She will now oversee financial operations at the £70m turnover firm, which employs around 270 staff across two sites in Glenbervie and Tannochside near Glasgow, producing a range of ingredients and inclusions for bakery and food manufacturers including gluten-free and plant-based options.
Macphie said Willows’ expertise in financial planning, digital transformation, and strategic growth will be critical for the company as it looks to further expand its footprint in key international markets including the Middle East.
“I’m honoured to be joining Macphie at such an exciting time in its growth journey,” commented Willows. “I come from a family of entrepreneurs – and that is where my true passion lies, using finance as a strategic tool for business growth and transformation.”
She joins a senior management team that has welcomes several new hires over the past year including Norman Souter as chairman, Paul McGovern as head of human resources, and Donald MacDonald as operations director.
The company has also recently made investments in packaging and site sustainability, which led to an 8% improvement of its B Impact assessment score (now at 99.7%) and granted a three-year extension of its B Corp accreditation.
Having first become a B Corp in 2015, the firm is one of just 70 businesses in Scotland to achieve the global recognition awarded to organisations that pass stringent tests of accountability and transparency and that are able to demonstrate a positive impact on people and the planet.
“This is an ongoing journey with B Corp that we are extremely proud to have been part of for nearly 10 years,” said Ed Widdowson, strategy, people and sustainability director at Macphie.
“We’re headquartered on a family estate and feel great responsibility for the stewardship of the land, which is visible with on-site wind turbines, biomass plant and our solar array.
“We continually strive to improve our policies and procedures to demonstrate our commitment to high social and environmental performance, which extends beyond the organisation to supporting the communities in which we work, as well as our supply chain.” Widdowson added.
