British Airways (BA) is in talks to join forces with Marks & Spencer to provide travellers with its range of sandwiches and snacks on its flights.

The deal is expected to be announced within weeks after details have been finalised, and will bring two of Britain’s biggest brands together for the first time.

It is understood that BA wanted to team up with a food supplier and had initially approached Waitrose, but industry insiders said the tie-up with M&S was a “perfect match”.

Experts have predicted that the move from the UK airline would anger regular customers, who would normally include food and drinks in the ticket price.

Marks & Spencer and BA would not comment on the talks, but a BA spokesman told The Daily Mail: “We are constantly reviewing every element of the experience our customers receive, including the inflight catering, to ensure we’re delivering what they want.

“Everything we do is with our customers in mind and we will make changes that reflect their feedback.”

Earlier this month, Marks & Spencer announced that its take-out sandwiches will all contain extra vitamin D.
