Real Bread Week 2017 prepares for launch

The Real Bread Campaign (RBC) is calling on bakeries and baking schools to join in the ninth annual Real Bread Week between 6 and 14 May.

Real Bread Week is the annual celebration of your local, independent, additive-free bakery and baking your own loaves at home.

“The idea is simple,” according to the RBC. “We are inviting existing and prospective supporters in our international network to run classes on baking easy-to-make ‘real bread’ that lends itself to shape-making, from a classic leaf design to funny faces.”

After the week organisers are then encouraged to host follow-up get-togethers for people to bring and try each other’s loaves, compare notes and share baking tips. “It would be even better if this were accompanied by more food and drink from other local, small-batch producers, and perhaps entertainment from local performers!” said the RBC.

Organisers are encouraged to add details of their classes and events to the events calendar on the RBC website.

During the week itself, budding bakers will be invited to share photos of themselves baking and their creations on social media using the #realbreadweek hashtag.

Everyone taking part is invited to use the recipes shared by campaign ambassadors Richard Bertinet and Andrew Whitley on the website or via social media, any in the campaign’s book Slow Dough: Real Bread, or indeed any of their own.
