Sponsored by Dawn Foods, Kluman & Balter, Rainbow Dust, Shuffle-Mix, and St. Ewe Free Range Eggs, the cakes are judged by an esteemed panel of experts including a senior product development manager for Co-op, innovation manager at Mademoiselle Desserts, not one but two Rising Star Award winners, and a host of other cake connoisseurs.

Judged on appearance, bake, aroma, mouthfeel, and taste, the category winners are named before moving on to a final round of judging to find the cake worthy of being crowned Britain’s Best Cake 2026.

There are nine categories to enter:

  • Blondies & Brownies
  • Celebration Cake
  • Classic Cake
  • Gluten Free Cake
  • Fruit Cake
  • Mini Cakes
  • Modern Cake
  • Traybake
  • Vegan Cake

Wirral-based Abba Cakes, which created last year’s overall champion The Chocolate Cake, benefitted from local, national, and international media coverage, as well as queues down the street and a visit from the mayor in the aftermath of the competition.
