Scottish Bakers has postponed its annual conference and awards until 2022.

The trade body was due to host the conference and Scottish Baker of the Year Awards in September, the event having been previously postponed from last May due to the pandemic.

It has now been pushed back to 6 and 7 May 2022 and will take place at the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow.

“Whilst the Covid vaccination programme progresses and we see restrictions slowly lifting, the board of directors and senior management team felt there is still too much uncertainty to allow us to effectively plan the event,” said chief executive Alasdair Smith.

“We had hoped to be able to host an event in September. However, the last thing we want to do is host an event that doesn’t meet our usual high standard, if we are still having to adhere to certain restrictions at that time.”

Scottish Bakers is forging ahead with the World Scotch Pie Awards though. It will take the format of a ‘champion of champions’ competition for 2021 with previous winners invited to enter their winning pies for socially distanced blind judging.
