Co-op reveals summer picnic range for 2022

Loaded blondies, nduja sausage rolls and a coronation chicken sub are some of the new products hitting shelves in Co-op stores across the UK as part of its summer 2022 range.

The convenience retailer has gone big on picnic-friendly sweet and savoury treats as well as barbecue sides and desserts.

“We’ve worked hard to develop products which offer the chance of fun discovery and adventure with convenience always at the centre of what we do,” said Dai Llewelyn, Co-op executive chef.

“Bold flavours, vibrant colours and beautiful textures are taken from the global pantry to celebrate diversity, inclusion and food heritage.”

Here’s what Co-op has lined up for the summer:

Coronation Chicken Sub – £3.50

British chicken and chickpeas are smothered in a curried mayonnaise with sultanas, red onion and mango chutney topped with pickled red onion and fresh spinach all served up in a turmeric & nigella seed sub roll.

Loaded Blondie – £1.10

Co-op is taking blondies up a notch by smothering them with a layer of caramel, chocolate drops, chocolate drizzle, cereal balls and fudge pieces.

Pesto & Mozzarella Pinwheel – £2.50

Kicking off its savoury picnic range are the pinwheels made from flaky pastry swirled with soft cheese, basil pesto and mozzarella.

Nduja Sausage Rolls – £3

These sausage rolls pack a punch of flavour thanks to the spicy, smoky Italian-style nduja. The all-butter pastry also contains succulent pork cuts.

Jaffa Cake Dessert – £2.85

Co-op is tapping into the chocolate orange flavour craze with this dessert. It features a vanilla flavoured sponge with an orange jelly and orange mousse finished with a dark chocolate glaze.

Passionfruit & Lemon Roulade – £4.80

There are summer flavours galore in this fruity roulade. Slow-baked meringue is filled with passionfruit cream and lemon curd. The roulade is hand rolled and drizzled with passionfruit sauce and finished with white chocolate shards.

Hand Finished Mediterranean Focaccia – £1

Part of the Irresistible range, this soft white focaccia is made using an eight-hour starter dough enriched with extra virgin olive oil and hand topped with pesto and cherry tomato halves and mixed red and yellow pepper strips. It’s also rolling out a Hand Finished Rosemary & Rock Salt Focaccia.

Vegan Falafel & Whipped Feta Wrap – £3.50

Co-op is expanding its vegan grab and go range with this wrap which is filled with spinach & pine nut falafel with whipped vegan feta, spinach and pink pickled onions.

Chocolate Ball Doughnut – £1

Sold in packs of four, these doughnuts feature chocolate flavoured dough which is rolled in sugar and filled with chocolate sauce. They’re made with Fairtrade cocoa.

Cheddar Ploughman’s Quiche – £3.50

Ploughman’s meets quiche in this new twist on two classics. The quiche is made with Somerset vintage cheddar and slow roasted tomato with tangy pickled chutney.
