Finsbury Food Group Wicked cake

Finsbury Food Group is tapping into Wicked fever with the launch of a new half-and-half cake celebrating the release of the final film in the franchise.

The manufacturer is hoping sales defy gravity with a design which celebrates the two iconic characters at the heart of Wicked: For Good – Elphaba and Glinda. Half of the cake is decorated with green frosting and green and black sprinkles for Elphaba while the other half has pink frosting and sprinkles for Glinda.

The half-and-half theme is also reflected on the inside with half the Elphaba half comprising a rich and indulgent chocolate sponge while Glinda’s half is made of a light and fluffy vanilla sponge.

“This is the first time we’ve partnered with Universal Products & Experiences (UP&E) on a Wicked-themed cake, and we’re excited to bring this epic tale to life in bakery form,” said Andrew Scott, brand manager at Finsbury Food Group.

“It’s a cake designed to resonate with a wide fanbase, from those discovering the world of Wicked for the first time through the films, to long-time fans of the Broadway show.”

Scott added that “it’s rare to find a cake that is quite literally two different flavour profiles split right down the middle, but it felt like the perfect way to pay homage to the central themes of Wicked: For Good and its two leading cast members”.

While this is the first Wicked cake for Finsbury, the manufacturer has worked with UP&E for 15 years – a partnership which was renewed earlier this year. As part of this, Finsbury has bought a host of Universal’s much-loved characters to the cake aisles, including Illumination’s Minions, Universal Pictures’ Jurassic World and DreamWorks Animation’s Gabby’s Dollhouse.
