Holland’s Pies is venturing into the vegan category for the first time with the launch of a Vegan Roll.

The Vegan Roll resembles a classic sausage roll in appearance, said Holland’s, but is filled with soya and wheat protein, mushrooms and fried onions in a flaky pastry and seasoned with a mix of herbs.

It will be available in Morrisons stores across the north west from 4 May, with an rsp of £1.25 per 132g roll. It can be eaten straight from pack, or heated up from chilled in 18 minutes in the oven or from frozen in just under 30 minutes.

Vegan alternatives to sausage rolls have gained prominence over the past couple of years, thanks partly to the launch of Greggs’ vegan sausage roll in January 2019. Other brands followed suit, included Quorn and Ginsters, which partnered for a retail launch in February 2020.

“We are incredibly excited to launch our first-ever vegan product, after receiving lots of feedback from fans following the launch of our extended vegetarian range in 2019,” said Leanne Holcroft, brand manager at Holland’s Pies.

Extensions included vegetarian mince & gravy pies, as well as co-branded cheese & onion pies, through a partnership with Wyke Farms.
