Morrisons has partnered with Myton Food Group to launch two savoury pastries to celebrate its home city of Bradford during its year as 2025 UK City of Culture.
A limited-edition Saag Paneer Roll and Chicken Balti Pie have been added to the retailer’s offering as it draws on the diversity and mixture of cultures within Bradford by blending global flavours with traditional hearty cuisine.
The Chicken Balti Pie takes inspiration from Bradford’s numerous pie and peas shops scattered across the city in days gone by, but with a modern twist – chunks of chicken in a Balti sauce. Priced from £2.10, the pie is available in all Morrisons stores nationwide.
The Saag Paneer Roll, which has a spinach and paneer cheese filling wrapped in flaky pastry dotted with nigella seeds, is only available in Bradford-based Morrisons stores with a starting price of £1.
Bradford has been home to Morrisons HQ for over 125 years and the business has always been a “proud supporter of the local community”, according to Morrisons pie buyer Fred Stevens.
“Our city has had a diverse range of people and cultures throughout history and its food cuisine has been at the forefront of bringing people together. As a ‘Major Partner’ of the 2025 UK City of Culture, we wanted to shine a spotlight on Bradford and the great food and flavours that we produce here,” Stevens added.
Taking place across the district throughout 2025, Bradford’s UK City of Culture programme will celebrate contemporary culture in all forms and showcase the rich history and heritage of the area. Events, performances, and activities will spread from the city to the towns, villages and green spaces across the district, running now until December 2025.
Other homegrown businesses have tapped into the celebrations and the savoury pastry NPD adds to a growing menu of new Bradford-inspired food and drink products. Seabrooks Crisps launched three special Bradford-inspired flavours – Cheddar & Chutney, Chicken Curry, and Fish & Chips – in Morrisons stores and Saltaire Brewery created a limited edition ‘Be Bold’ Bradford pale ale.
