Research from comparison website MySupermarket shows that a basket of popular supermarket items dropped slightly in August, two months after prices rose in June and July.
The research found the price of a basket of 35 popular products came to £83.35, down £0.09 from the month before. The price for August was still higher than total basket prices recorded throughout April, May and June this year.
But MySupermarket’s chief executive Gilad Simhony said the grocery sector was still facing a period of uncertainty post-Brexit: “Prices are still fluctuating quite heavily across the board and while we welcome a drop in price, we will be maintaining a close on eye on retailers’ movements throughout the next few months,” he said.
“It does appear that consumer confidence is stabilising so we hope to see this reflected in more consistent pricing for everyday goods. Shoppers should always keep a close eye on whether their favourite grocery products are creeping up in price and ensure they compare costs before they leave the house.”
However, baked products such as frozen pizza have risen in price, while white bread saw a 0.29% price difference since July.
Earlier this month, e-commerce delivery expert ParcelHero revealed that the launch of Amazon Dash service could take away 20% of UK supermarket online sales by 2020.
