C-Tech Innovation is to share a pot of money set aside for investment in sustainable manufacturing, for the development of a low-energy baking system.
The firm, together with its partners, has been developing a system based on a two-step process, which consists of an accelerated conventional baking stage, followed by a novel post-baking cooling step.
It is believed the reduction in baking time achieved using this process could reduce the overall energy consumption of the sector by 20%.
The £7m funding pot is to be shared between 70 companies, universities and research organisations, which are undertaking research that could lead to the development and commercialisation of innovative approaches to sustainable manufacturing for the process industry.
