A number of bakery firms have featured in both the Sunday Times Top Track 250 league table, and the Fast Track 100, published by the newspaper this month.
Warburtons claimed 12th place in the Top Track table, which ranks Britain’s leading mid-market private companies with the biggest sales. Its last reported sales figure was £492.1m, with profit at £43.9m. It has dropped two places from the 2010 table, where, although sales were higher at £510.5m, profit was lower at £42.1m.
Pret A Manger ranked 72nd in the table with sales up from £279.2m in 2009 to £327.5m in 2010 – when it ranked 85th. Its profits have also seen a huge increase from £2.3m in 2009 to £14.1m in 2010.
Biscuit manufacturer Burtons Foods also featured in the table in 75th position – down from 63rd last year, and William Jackson Food Group came in at 238th place.
Pie-maker Higgidy came 43rd in the Fast Track 100 league table, which ranks Britain’s 100 private companies with the fastest-growing sales over their latest three years. The West Sussex firm has seen profits increase 76.6% from £1.5m to around £8.1m from 2007 to 2010.
The only other bakery firm to feature in the Fast Track 100, Pieminister, came in 99th place, with profits up £1.6m to £5m over the same three-year period.
