The Food Standards Agency (FSA) this week completed a consultation on options for increasing young women’s intake of folate.

During the 13-week consultation, four options were considered, including encouraging the food industry to fortify more foods with folic acid on a voluntary basis and recommending the mandatory fortification of bread or flour.

The findings of the consultation will be discussed at a board meeting in May, alongside a report from the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition (SACN).
