Cronut inventor Dominique Ansel has unveiled his latest creation - the ChurroDuo made from interlocking pyramid-shaped black and white sesame churros.
Renowned for his bakery inventions, or ‘creations’ as he calls them, Ansel’s ChurroDuo has already taken Tokyo by storm after launching at his bakery DAB Tokyo, and may be heading to DAB London soon.
Made to order at DAB Tokyo and served warm with caramel sauce, the ChurroDuo is made up of two 3D sesame seed churros (one made with black seeds, one with white).
A churro is a fried-dough pastry-based snack. The pastry is predominantly choux, and the churros are popular in Spain, Portugal, France, the Philippines, Ibero-America and the south-western United States.

The Cronut (a croissant/doughnut hybrid) is perhaps Ansel’s most famous creation, but others include Frozen S’mores, the Cookie Shot and the DKA (Dominique’s Kouign Amann) – similar to a caramelised croissant with flaky layers on the inside and a crunchy caramelised shell on the outside, it was named one of Time Out New York’s 100 best dishes in 2012.
DAB London opened in September – fans queued from 5am to get a glimpse of the newest branch of the internationally renowned bakery chain, DAB (which stands for Dominique Ansel Bakery), famously founded by Ansel in New York.
Ansel announced the London opening exclusively to British Baker back in February.
Churro was flagged up as one of the key UK food products of 2016 in the Waitrose Food & Drink Report 2016 published by the retailer last month. The retailer said a recipe for the Spanish sweet treat by former Great British Bake Off contestant Martha Collison was one of the most popular on the Waitrose social media pages.
