Loyal staff at Bolton bakery Sayers are to be immortalised on some of their best-selling products. Nine workers will feature on the packaging of their specialist goods as a thank you for all their hard work, said the company, including David Foster, set to star on Madeira cakes for baking an estimated 4.6 million of them in his 43 years with the company.

 

 

== NAMB competition ==

 

The National Association of Master Bakers has received hundreds of colouring-in entries from children, for its Wallace & Gromit competition, promoted via its members. Aardman Animations, which produced the recent film ’A Matter of Loaf and Death’, is to pick the winner. However, the NA wants to stress to bakers taking part in the competition to tell their customers to put the correct postage on their entries.

 

 

== Bakery in balance ==

 

Council planners are trying to stop a bakery opening next to a curry house, as the smell of bread would disturb its neighbours. Giovanni Dilieto wants to re-open a shop near the Oval in Brixton Road, which operated until the 1980s. But planning officers said Lambeth should reject his application, as it "would have an unacceptable impact upon neighbouring properties by way of noise and disturbance, including fumes and smells".

 

 

== MP visits ADM ==

 

The Minister for Farming and the Environment, the Rt Hon Jane Kennedy MP, had a briefing on the milling industry from ADM MD Tim Cook, when she visited ADM’s flour mills at Knottingley and Castleford, organised by nabim director general Alex Waugh. "I was impressed by the skill and experience that the industry draws upon among its staff to produce high-quality flour," said Kennedy.
