Just Desserts has developed a unique fruit cake for Yorkshire brewing business Timothy Taylor.

The Shipley-based bakery and patisserie was approached by the brewer to conjure up a bespoke fruit cake using its award-winning Championship Landlord bitter pale ale for its premium pubs, which will go on sale next Monday (13 February).

Kate Foxon, sales manager for Just Desserts, said: “We hope our Landlord’s Fruit Cake is well received by the customers at Timothy Taylor premium pubs. We tried a number of recipes before we were happy with the quality, texture and taste combination of mixed fruit and classic, strong pale ale, but we think we’re onto a winner with the Landlord’s. It will work perfectly with the premium cheeses from Shepherds Purse.”

Timothy Taylor also asked artisan cheese maker Shepherds Purse of Thirsk to supply one of its cheeses to complement the fruit cake, including Yorkshire Blue, Monks Folly, Ryedale, Yorkshire Fettle and the company’s latest innovation Bells Bluemin White.

Adrian Sykes, food development manager at Timothy Taylor, said: “It’s a long-established British tradition to serve fruit cake with cheese, so we wanted to find like-minded businesses to work with us to create a delicious cheeseboard and cake combination. Our chefs are impressed with the premium range of artisan cheeses from Shepherds Purse and the high-quality products from Just Desserts.

“As one of only a few independently run traditional Yorkshire brewers, it is great to be able to deal with two successful Yorkshire businesses producing traditional, high-quality, handcrafted products. Both are award-winning producers and we are delighted to be able to offer their products to our foodie customers.”
