Marshfield Bakery has been named winner of the South West Manufacturers’ Apprenticeship Award.
The Wiltshire firm offers apprenticeship opportunities, runs regular workshops to provide unemployed young people with support in searching for a job, as well as post-workshop mentoring.
It also works closely with The Ridings Federation Of International Academies in South Gloucestershire as well as other Wiltshire schools, and regularly undertakes projects with Bath Spa University and Bath University undergraduates.
Chris Smith, director, Marshfield Bakery, said: “We are fortunate to have a fantastic team at the bakery who so warmly welcome visitors to the bakery and so willingly work with the young people who regularly ‘invade’ their workplace. The patience and empathy with which they engage with those who visit the business does them immense credit.”
He continued: “Our supporters, who deserve special mention, include the team at the Yate Job Centre Plus, who work so hard with us to put on the workshops, as well as the IGD whose annual Feeding Britain’s Future programme provided the inspiration and momentum to begin the work.”
