Fisher & Donaldson will look to roll out its hot bakery vending machine to further stores if its success continues.
The Fife-based bakery unveiled the first machine, located outside its St Andrews shop, three weeks ago, with products selling out on a daily basis.
Ben Milne, manager of Fisher & Donaldson, told British Baker: “I was inspired by Bradfords Bakers Cupcake ATM.” However, on a shopping trip with his wife, where he investigated how the ATM worked, he felt that these types of machines would be more popular if filled with hot sausage rolls instead.
Milne has been trialling a variety of different products, including: hot pies; bridies; sausage rolls; spinach rolls; Irn Bru; Cola Cola; bacon rolls; and fudge doughnuts. The machine is currently refilled with fresh products once a day.
“It can hold 22 different products - but that would limit how much you could have of each,” said Milne, who added that, following trials, he will narrow the range down to around 10 core products. “At the moment, we are just finding out what people are buying from it.”
Milne said that if trials were successful, he would look to roll it out to some of the bakery’s six other shops.
