Black Sheep Coffee is accelerating its expansion having secured franchise agreements for a minimum of 39 new stores across southern England.

The brand, founded in 2013, said the agreements represent a major milestone in its journey and are set to increase the store count by over 30% while opening up largely untapped territories over the next five years.

The three agreements comprise 14 stores across Greater London, 12 across East and West Sussex, and 13 across Bristol, Somerset, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire.

Across the three territories, the new stores will focus on high-footfall and high-traffic locations, including high streets, shopping centres, business centres and retail parks, with a focus on commuters, young professionals, students and local communities.

They will serve up the firm’s specialty-grade 100% Robusta coffee, alongside its Arabica range, matcha, food, cold drinks and distinctive store designs to more communities across the UK. Bakery items on the menu include Norwegian Waffles, pastries, sandwiches, wraps, and sweet treats.

Significantly, the Greater London agreement means Black Sheep Coffee will have franchise partners covering every London borough as the new territory comprises Sutton, Croydon, Lewisham, Redbridge, Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Haringey and Enfield. A minimum of 14 new stores will be opened here over the next five years thanks to the new franchise partner.

In East and West Sussex, Black Sheep Coffee is committing to a minimum of 12 new stores with long-standing franchise partners, Stuart Carter, Farouk Somani and Ali Cheval, which it said have been a valuable part of the network for three years and currently operate the brand’s Bluewater store. It will extend Black Sheep Coffee’s presence beyond the airport environment in the region, as it currently has two locations in Gatwick Airport.

In the South West, an existing franchise partner is extending their agreement to cover a minimum of 13 additional stores. The partner, who has recently opened stores in Plymouth and Exeter, will build on the brand’s established presence in Bristol and expand its footprint across the wider region.

“We’re thrilled to double down in London where our journey started, and to bring Black Sheep to many exciting new markets across Southern England,” said Gabriel Shohet and Eirik Holth, co-founders of Black Sheep Coffee.

“None of this would be possible without our exceptional franchise partners who live and breathe Black Sheep and deliver our distinctive products and customer experience in their communities.”
