Find out which bakeries have won at least a Regional Bronze Award for one of their products – among them is the Scottish Baker of the Year 2017.
The shortlist has been whittled down from 11,000 votes, 115 bakeries and over 850 products.
Last week a panel of 56 expert and independent judges judged each product, and now the shortlist has been announced.
With a sea of scones, loaves, savoury items, morning rolls, individual cakes and biscuits, the judges had a hard task tasting, smelling and squishing each and every item to shortlist of the best products in the land.
Scottish Bakers chief executive Alan Clarke said: “We took delivery of hundreds of excellent scones, loaves, savoury items, morning rolls, individual cakes and biscuits made by Scottish bakers.
“Our judges, led by head judge Robert Ross, have once again done us proud; we have a strong shortlist to take forward to the next stage.”
Each of the categories: scones, loaves, savoury items, morning rolls, individual cakes and biscuits have been divided into three regions: northern, central and southern Scotland.
Within each category, the judges will award regional Gold, Silver and Bronze awards. All of the regional winners will then be judged on a national level.
Category winners will be invited to put forward a case to be considered for Craft Baker, Retail Craft Baker and Wholesale Baker of the Year. This year also sees the introduction of a new business category – the Bakery Café of the Year Award.
The winner of this new category will then compete alongside the winners of the Craft Baker, Retail Craft Baker and Wholesale Baker of the Year, for the title of Scottish Baker of the Year 2017/18. The Manufacturer of the Year Category means bakers can also vote for their favourite bakery manufacturer.
But the ultimate winner will be crowned Scottish Baker of the Year 2017/18.
The final results will be announced on 6 May by celebrated cake maker Mich Turner, Scottish Bakers Ambassador.
