Family-run bakery The Topping Pie Company has secured a Harrods listing for a 25-strong range of handcrafted pies.

The products from the Doncaster-based business will be sold from the famous Knightsbridge department store’s newly revamped delicatessen counter within its food halls.

The range includes 120g Dinky Topped Pies, 120g, 200g and 450g Traditional Pork Pies, and 200g and 450g Speciality Pork Pies. A selection of bespoke cutting pies will also feature, including a 260g Limited Edition Christmas Turkey, Cranberry & Sausage Pie, and a 2.7kg Stilton, Apple & Pear Pork Pie ready for the festive season.

All the products are made with locally sourced, high-quality ingredients and British quality assured pork meat in Yorkshire, according to the company.

“We are incredibly proud to supply such an iconic luxury department store with our handcrafted Yorkshire-made products,” said Matthew Topping, sales director. “We know that Harrods shoppers are incredibly discerning and look for the very best quality and taste, so we are delighted to introduce a taste of Yorkshire to the revamped deli counter in time for the festive period and beyond.”

Topping added that the Harrods contract has been secured following “an incredibly challenging few years” where the impact of the pandemic forced the pie maker to change its business model “overnight and adapt quickly”.

“As the UK food and drink industry faced a changing and challenging marketplace, we focused on our quality local customer-base through online sales, as well as supplying our premium products to high quality retailers and independents,” said Topping.

The Topping Pie Company started in 1961 as a small family butchers before transitioning to the speciality pie business, supplying handcrafted products to retail, independents, wholesale and export customers.
