Reigning Great British Bake Off champion Nadiya Hussain has revealed that she is to bake the Queen’s 90th birthday cake.

Speaking on ITV’s Loose Women, Hussain said she was creating a “very citrusy” orange drizzle cake with orange curd and orange buttercream. Although she initially considered making a fruitcake, she said she had decided to do something a bit different.

The cake will be delivered personally to the Queen at Windsor Castle’s Guildhall on her birthday (21 April).

Hussain said: “When I told the kids, the boys were great at keeping it a secret. I told my daughter and she said, ‘Oh Mary Berry? You’ve made lots of cakes for Mary Berry’.”

Hussain will be holding a live demonstration of her unique bakery techniques at the Food & Drink Expo on 18 April.
