Furniss Biscuits, owned by pasty manufacturer Proper Cornish, has installed a new oven in its Cornwall bakery as part of a major ongoing investment programme.
The oven is PLC-controlled with the latest touchscreen technology. It also provides temperature changes, allowing flexibility, is easily maintained and energy-efficient, and equipped with latest health and safety features.
The original Cornish biscuit brand is investing to further improve its popular quality products and this addition means production capacity has increased to 300 biscuits per minute as a result of the new 1m-wide belt, compared with the previous 80cm model.
Gerald Allen, operations director at Furniss Biscuits, said: “Staff are completely on board and feel it has really revolutionised the business. Our production capacity and efficiency is improving as we progress with investment in the brand and continue our innovation in the biscuit sector.”
The oven is the first stage of an ongoing investment programme aimed at helping the business increase efficiency, as well as driving ambitious growth plans.
The second stage will be to install wire cuts and rotary mould systems, which will allow for a further increase in production.
