Norfolk-based food manufacturer Finedale Foods has rescued the George Adams 1910 brand from administration for an undisclosed amount.

Production of the brand’s range of artisan-style pies, sausage rolls, and Scotch eggs is due to resume in the coming weeks at Finedale’s BRC-accredited site in Bunwell, near Norwich. Finedale also owns and produces ranges of the Frank Dale Foodservice and Deli Santé brands.

George Adams 1910 fell into administration earlier this year, closing its manufacturing unit in Spalding, Lincolnshire. Finedale’s investment saw it acquire non-physical assets including the brand’s trademark and intellectual property.

Finedale Foods managing director Edward Miles said George Adams 1910 was a heritage brand with a “wealth of history behind it”. He said he was looking forward to “bringing the brand alive once more” and building on its legacy, adding that it “fits perfectly with our existing brands and widens our production capabilities at our manufacturing unit in Norfolk”.

George Adams started the business in 1910, serving the people of Spalding with quality meats and handmade pork pies from his new butcher’s shop. Growing demand led to the company becoming a large-scale food manufacturer focusing on pies, sausages, and cooked meat products, which are sold chilled or frozen to consumers via both the retail and foodservice sectors.

Finedale Foods is also a frozen and chilled foods manufacturer, delivering contract manufacturing solutions to a broad range of customers including retailers, foodservice distributors, food-to-go operators, and fellow producers, as well as private brands and the travel sector.

It also rescued the Frank Dale brand back in 2017 after it had gone into liquidation. The buffet and party food specialist is known for its premium quiches and bite-sized bakery lines such as mini scones, mini cakes, mini pies and mini Yorkshire puddings.

Two years ago, Finedale unveiled an investment of £400k in new equipment to increase production lines making Frank Dale products. A few months later, it announced that it had eliminated black plastic from its operations with new packaging containing 70% recycled plastics. Frank Dale also continues to launch new products, rolling out a new quartet of savoury puff pastry tarts for foodservice last year.
